Don Bosco Konkan Development Society Empowers 40 Students with Their Dream Careers
To equip 40 students in their 10th standard with the tools needed to make well-informed career decisions, Don Bosco Konkan Development Society organised a two-hour career guidance session at Don Bosco Farm High School in Sulcorna on 16th April. The workshop connected students' aspirations with realistic educational pathways through interactive presentations, comprehensive career pamphlets, and targeted psychometric assessments.
Navigating the transition from 10th grade to higher education can be a daunting challenge for many young minds. Recognising this critical juncture, Don Bosco Konkan Development Society hosted career guidance and counselling sessions at Don Bosco Farm High School in Sulcorna. The primary goal was to empower the students with the essential knowledge and tools needed to make well-informed decisions about their future.
The session was carefully designed to bridge the gap between the students' aspirations and realistic career pathways. It kicked off with an engaging interactive presentation emphasising the importance of strategic career planning. During this segment, students learned the foundational steps of identifying their personal strengths, analysing current market trends, and aligning their individual goals with viable professional avenues.
To ensure the advice is translated into actionable steps, KDS distributed specialised career guidance pamphlets to every student. These materials, which were explained in detail during the session, included a comprehensive Career Pathways Flowchart. This flowchart mapped out the specific routes available after the 10th standard (S.S.C.), detailing the 12th Arts, Commerce, and Science branches, as well as Diploma and ITI options. Furthermore, the students received vital information about national and state-level entrance exams for highly sought-after fields such as Engineering (JEE, GATE), Medical (NEET, AIIMS), Management, Law (CLAT), and Design (NIFT, NID). They were also given guidance on preparing for government and competitive exams for the UPSC, SSC, banking, and defence sectors.
A standout feature of the workshop was the focus on personalised self-discovery through psychometric testing to help the students pinpoint their natural inclinations. KDS administered two key assessments:
-
Multiple Intelligence Assessment: This test was designed to help students identify their unique cognitive strengths, such as logical-mathematical, spatial, linguistic, or interpersonal skills, and to give them insight into how they best learn and process information.
-
Interest Inventory: This assessment mapped the students' personal interests directly to specific career clusters, offering a data-driven starting point for their future educational choices.
The students actively engaged in the workshop and gained a much clearer understanding of the academic streams available to them after 10th grade and the specific requirements to achieve their goals. The thoughtful combination of personalised self-assessment tests and comprehensive career charts ultimately provided these students with a solid, confident foundation as they prepare for their upcoming academic transitions.
