Chennai Salesians Celebrate Province Feast, 92nd Foundation Day and Jubilee Milestones

News reported by: Arun Raj SDB

The Salesian Province of Chennai (INM) marked its Province Feast on July 3 at Don Bosco, Perambur, in honour of St. Thomas the Apostle, patron of the Province. The celebration also marked the Province's 92nd foundation anniversary and honoured Diamond and Golden Jubilee confreres, creating a day of thanksgiving, fraternity, and renewed commitment to the Salesian mission.

The celebrations began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr. K. P. Paul. Fr. Maria Arokiam Kanaga delivered the homily, urging the faithful to deepen their commitment to Christ and the Salesian mission in the spirit of St. Thomas the Apostle. It was concelebrated by Fr. Biju Michael, Regional Councillor for South Asia, Fr. L. Don Bosco, Provincial of Chennai, and the Province's priests.

The celebration also had an international dimension through the Province's missionaries serving abroad—Fr. Augustine Sellam from Africa, Fr. Arun Charles from Cambodia, and Fr. Pious from Sri Lanka—whose presence reflected the Province's missionary outreach and contribution to the universal Church.

Another highlight was the presentation of a scholarship fund established by the family of the late Fr. Augustine Arokiasamy to support brothers in formation. Fr. Augustine's mother, brother, and sister-in-law were present as the family made the generous contribution in his memory. The Province expressed its gratitude to the family for its support and solidarity with the Salesian mission.

The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a felicitation programme honouring the Diamond and Golden Jubilee confreres and the newly ordained priests of the Province. Congratulating the jubilarians, Fr. L. Don Bosco highlighted their exemplary lives and enduring commitment, describing them as inspiring models for younger Salesians. The gathering also welcomed the newly ordained priests as they began their ministry in the service of God and young people.

The celebration brought together Rectors, community leaders, confreres, members of the Salesian Family, and young people from across the Province, reflecting unity and shared mission.

As part of the patronal feast celebrations, the Province also released three new publications focusing on faith formation, youth development, and education, reaffirming its commitment to evangelisation, youth ministry, and educational excellence.
