BOSCOM South Asia Unveils New Logo, Sets Communication Roadmap for 2026–27

The BOSCOM South Asia Executive Council met at Don Bosco Provincial House, Matunga, Mumbai, on August 28 and 29 to unveil its logo, chart the region’s communication roadmap, formulate guidelines for the personal and pastoral use of social media, and plan new initiatives to engage young people through digital and creative media.

The two-day meeting opened with the unveiling of the new BOSCOM South Asia logo, symbolising the Salesian communication mission in the digital age.

Fr Ashley Miranda, Provincial in charge of Social Communication for South Asia, said communicators had a crucial role to play in a world increasingly marked by division and conflict.

“We are living in a divisive world, country and environment, where we have many reasons to hate and find faults. But as Salesian communicators, we need to bring people together,” he said.

Explaining the symbolism of the new logo, Fr Miranda said the face of Don Bosco represents the Salesian charism, while the geometric facets signify the digital world. The circular arcs represent networking, dialogue, and communion; the spectrum of colours reflects the diversity and creativity of South Asia; and the play button symbolises digital and multimedia communication. The bold BOSCOM identity expresses a unified Salesian communication mission for young people across the region.

Earlier, Fr Miranda presided over the Eucharistic celebration. In his homily on the feast of St Augustine, he challenged communicators to ensure that their message was rooted in their lived experience.

“What we communicate should not merely be what we have read or heard from somewhere else, but what is close to and rooted in our own lives,” he said, stressing that communication should correspond to the reality one lives.

He urged communicators to discover how Scripture speaks to their own situations. He cautioned that merely presenting attractive ideas borrowed from others could result in communication that lacks authenticity and fails to be life-giving.

Fr Bastin Nellissery, Delegate of BOSCOM South Asia, welcomed the provincial delegates and outlined the proceedings for the two-day meeting. He expressed gratitude to the Province of Mumbai for providing new office space and infrastructural support. He acknowledged the contributions of former BOSCOM Delegate Fr Ernest Rosario and BOSCOM Secretary Fr Francis Xavier for their dedicated service to the region.

The council unanimously elected Fr Blasius Tete of the Dimapur Province as the new Secretary of BOSCOM South Asia.

Fr Nathaneal George, a member of the Social Communication sector of Mumbai Province, presented a draft of guidelines for the personal and pastoral use of social media. The proposed guidelines, subject to ratification by the competent authorities, seek to assist Salesian provinces and communities in using digital platforms responsibly, safely and effectively.

The provinces also presented their programmes and plans for 2026–27, and discussions focused on translating the Six Strategic Goals of Don Bosco South Asia into concrete communication initiatives at the provincial and local levels.

The second day began with a Eucharistic celebration presided over by Fr Ernest Rosario, who called upon the delegates to be courageous communicators, following the example of John the Baptist in standing for truth.

As part of its efforts to strengthen its digital presence, the council discussed a comprehensive digital ecosystem, including a dedicated BOSCOM South Asia website and associated social media platforms. The proposal also included establishing a BOSCOM Media Club for Colleges as a new initiative to engage youth.

The meeting further addressed emerging challenges posed by social media, the need to streamline communication among the Salesian provinces, and ways to promote creative media initiatives among college students. Proposed initiatives for the coming year include music shows and workshops on crisis communication management.
