Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), Mumbai Province, distributed 2,000 educational kits to flood-affected children in Assam to help them return to class after the floods.

To address this need, Bosco Gramin Vikas Kendra (BGVK), in collaboration with AIDA Don Bosco, Dimapur, which facilitated the on-ground distribution, distributed 2,000 educational kits to flood-affected students in Assam.

A BGVK team comprising Fr George, Director; Fr Ajay, Administrator; and Ms Ankita, Staff Member, undertook a two-day distribution programme covering the districts of Jorhat and Shivsagar.

On the first day, the team distributed 1,000 educational kits to students from flood-affected schools in Jorhat. Each kit contained a school bag, notebooks and essential stationery. With help from local teams and school authorities, the materials reached children whose education the floods had disrupted.

The team travelled to Shivsagar on the second day, where several schools had suffered severe flooding. There, it distributed another 1,000 educational kits to students from the affected schools.

The two-day initiative benefited approximately 2,000 students across more than 25 schools in the two districts.

Though the items distributed were basic school necessities, they provided practical support to children preparing to resume their studies. For students returning to school after flood disruption, having a school bag, notebooks and stationery can help restore a sense of normalcy and continuity in their education.

The distribution programme also enabled the BGVK team to interact with students and teachers and better understand the challenges schools and families faced after the floods. Despite the disruption, schools continued to serve as important spaces of routine, learning and stability for children.

The initiative was supported through crowdfunding, with individuals contributing towards the educational needs of flood-affected children. Their collective assistance enabled BGVK to procure and distribute around 2,000 educational kits across Jorhat and Shivsagar.

BGVK acknowledged the donors' contributions and AIDA Don Bosco, Dimapur, whose local support helped ensure the educational materials reached the intended schools and students.
