Lahore, July 2024
In order to involve the young people more in the
Liturgy and in the accompaniment of the songs,
we found ourselves in the need to write the music
of these religious songs.
We make our work available to all, in the hope
that it will return to the greater glory of God.
The work was done in the spare time, and is
far from finished. Other more complete and
correct editions will probably follow.
Western musical writing imposed the use of
Roman Urdu (left to right writing). In writing the
melody we have tried to be as faithful as possible
to the songs as they are normally sung in the
parishes, but we are aware that some nuances,
some melisms typical of South Asian music are
impossible to reproduce in Western musical
notation. In harmonization we followed the
criterion of simplicity, but without falling into
banality. We have preferred a tonal
harmonization even where the singing structure is
typically modal. The choice is motivated by the
fact of giving greater strength to the
accompaniment, since in many songs it is also
possible to use the guitar or other non-traditional
instruments.
